BOOK REVIEW:

Baron von Dortmann cares for his family with the same passion and devotion with which he tends the roses in his beloved Spring Garden. His daughter, the beautiful Sabina, drinks in the nourishment of his fascinating stories in the garden - his wonderful life-lessons about God and creation and growing things. |
This first of the series draws the reader into the intrigue of an ancient mansion with secret passageways and legends of a secret dungeon. Phillips captivates the reader with the activities of a secret watcher, the results of early-life choices regarding paths in life, the bold machinations of the not-so-secret developments of the Nazi terror and the poignant and deep lessons from a Baron who walks with and talks to God in the same simple way he tends his incredible garden.
Throughout the (so far) four-book series which covers a time period from the 30's to the '70's the reader is captivated by men and women of such faith that evil plans of first the Nazis and then the Russian KGB are repeatedly foiled. Loving relationships and promises endure running, hiding and forced separation - sometimes over four decades. The Gold of the human heart is refined by fire. And, of all the treasures gained and lost by the characters in this series, readers will discover that the lessons in trusting God as Father and Messiah through all circumstances will be the greatest reward.
